This technique, invented in Switzerland and perfected in Belgium, is now being offered in America. Michael J Maynard MD, a master orthopedic surgeon at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery, has brought this minimally invasive and aesthetically pleasing procedure here from Europe. This procedure uses a small incision in the groin crease to insert the hip replacement prosthesis. It eliminates the risk of fracture posed by the mechanical apparatus currently used by most surgeons to manipulate the leg for the performance of the anterior approach. It also drastically reduces the need for x-ray exposure. These significant improvements are realized while maintaining the benefits of superior cosmesis and speedier recovery compared with all other alternative approaches to the performance of hip replacement surgery.
This basis of this technique, which utilizes a novel means of preparation and fixation of hamstring tendon graft in substitution for damaged ACL tissue, was first introduced in Belgium and later perfected by surgeons in France. Michael J Maynard MD has brought this minimally invasive technique to America and has optimized it as a “cosmetically conscious” technique. Small incisions are placed in the natural skin tension lines (also known as Langer’s lines) to procure and install a hamstring tendon graft to replace or reconstruct an injured ACL. The short term benefit is that there is much less pain and disability during recovery when compared with patella tendon and other forms of hamstring autografts. A typical patient is smiling and walking in a brace, without crutches, three days after surgery! The long term benefit is that scar lines seem to disappear over time.
The universe of biologic tissue applications in the treatment of musculoskeletal injury and disease is advancing rapidly throughout the world. These interventions can often cure problems such as muscle, ligament, tendon, bone, cartilage and skin damage. In arthritic conditions, the need for reconstructive surgery can be significantly delayed or eliminated altogether. Michael J Maynard MD has assembled a broad offering of the finest advanced biologic techniques together in one place. Each patient receives the most advanced biologic treatment available personalized for their particular disorder and under the supervision of a master orthopedic surgeon.
We make it a priority to minimize scarring and keep your body looking like your body.
